Many analysts and sony itself said "2008 will be the year of Playstation 3". At the beginning of 2008, that claim seemed to be true. Home was facing out and it seemed to be very promising, LBP was a very acclaimed title, there wasn't a very big gap between the PS3 and the 360 prices. Many really thought that PS3 would outsell the 360.
However, we all know what happened, Sony mismanaged PS3 marketing (mismanaged wouldn't be the exact word, it would be lacked), The 360 raised its numbers after hitting the $200 usd barrier, Sony failed to its fans after rescheduling over and over Home's release date.
The PS3 is pretty much lost... or isn't it.
2009. Whole new year, fresh start. Sony can still take the PS3 out of the hole. The PS3's mayor problem is it's price. Sony needs to lower the PS3 price. We heard some news that march on march we would see the long awaited price drop. However sony quickly responded to this saying that "there are no plans". But it's very likely that Sony will cut the PS3 price before the E3 2009.
Many People claims that the PS3 has no games, sad and old statement that was only valid about a month after the PS3's launch. But Sony has great games for the PS3 this 2009, of course topping the lists there is Killzone 2, and of course God of War 3. But its not the lack of games that Sony has to fill, it's the lack of publicity. Sony has little publicity for the PS3, while the 360 is bombarding TV and internet with publicity, You can consider yourself lucky if you see a PS3 ad.
Not all is lost yet, the console war is not over. The PS3 might wake up from the ashes and even beat the untouchable Wii. It all depends on how well does sony manage the PS3.
